Tendon injuries are about as much fun as they sound. That nagging pain into your elbow or ankle that just seems to never go away, this is most likely a tendon issue.
Unfortunately, one factor which affects the recovery of an injury is blood flow, lots of blood in a tissue such as a muscle means it recovers very quickly, unfortunately, tendons and ligaments a white, this means very little blood flow into the area. This slows healing down a lot and also increases your frustration a lot.
Treatment of tendons is something we do very often here at the clinic as these injuries can happen to anyone. The route to fixing them tends to be like a stage in the tour de france, quite up and down with some sharp corners along the way, sometimes the effort that you have to put in to fixing them will also feel like you are doing a stage on the tour as well.
Lots of hands on care to treat the reason for why the tendon has become overloaded and annoyed, lots of exercises to load the tendon back up so that it can tolerate life again and lastly, potentially, a sprinkling of shockwave to shift things along a bit quicker.
I know none of that sounds like fun and to be honest it isn’t, this is why we prefer to see things before they get to the stage where tendons are the issue, if you have a niggle that isn’t getting better, book with one of our therapists to get this assessed and fixed.
